Selection of materials for file cabinets

Those familiar with archival compact shelving likely know that the selection of materials is very strict. National standards for archives clearly define the materials allowed for archival compact shelving. Only shelving made from wood from the 5 genera, 8 categories, and 32 species specified in these standards can be called archival compact shelving. Shelving made from other types of wood cannot be called archival compact shelving. Therefore, consumers must carefully check the materials when purchasing archival compact shelving.

Higher-grade materials for archival compact shelving include rosewood, Huanghuali (a type of rosewood), and black acid wood. These three types of wood are suitable for carving, have stable wood properties, are not easily deformed, and have high investment and collection value. The price of the same type of wood also varies. For example, the price difference between large and small pieces of Huanghuali wood is huge, and the prices of medium and high-grade materials also differ. Therefore, when purchasing archival compact shelving, it is essential to check the quality of the wood. Some main panels are made of three or four pieces, while others are made of two pieces. Two-piece panels are less common in the market now, and one-piece panels are even rarer. Therefore, their value is naturally higher than three- or four-piece panels. Such shelving is often made of Huanghuali wood, as only Huanghuali wood comes in large pieces. Other woods, such as rosewood and black acid wood, do not come in large pieces. If you encounter a two-piece black acid wood or rosewood shelving unit, be wary; it may be a fake.
